Landscape and campus of the Vietnam Forestry University

At present, the permanent campus of the Vietnam Forestry. It is situated on the semi-mountainous land that is the gate to the Northwest region linking with Hanoi Center as well as the junction of the road No 6A (Hanoi - Hoa Binh) and road No 21A (Xuan Mai – Son Tay), 35 km SW of Hanoi Center.

The main campus of the University consists of 27 ha including:

- Education and training area, which includes the classroom buildings and laboratories for training, practice and exercise.

- Administrative area consists of a three storied building situated among the green tree landscape with its center as a rock-garden near the ventilation lotus lake adjacent to the tropical flora and fauna specimens museum and new library that attract a good number of scientists, lecturers and students inside and outside the country for study and reference.

- Training service area consists of the forest bio-material research and trials, bio-technology (tissue culture lab), greenhouse, bonsai garden, nursery for raising indigenous tree species, wood processing and engineering workshop for practical training, exercise and transfer of technology.

- Students’domitory area consists of a number of multi-storey buildings, which can provide enough for 3,000 to 4000 students living inside the campus. At present, the University is invested by the Government to increase the training scale up to over 8,000 students, including foreign students and  Master and Ph.D. students inside and outside the country  by the year 2008.

The University was also allocated more than 400 ha of forest land that was spent aside for establishment of demonstration models as well as practical, research and experimental place for environmental and landscape forest.

The particular note is the tropical forest plant collection arboretum for indigenous species gene bank preservation from every part of the country and demonstration models for research and trials on forest farms and social forestry.

Both the University campus and surrounding environmental forest have created out a green, clean and cool environment in the whole year round. It is also an ideal place for the Vietnam Forestry University teachers and students who carry out their work. 

Since 1964 until now, the University has trained and graduated over 15,000 students specializing in Silviculture, Industry for Rural Development, Business Management, Forest Products Technology, Forest Resources and Environment Management and Social Forestry....

Nowadays, many graduated students (engineers) have been undertaking their positions and responsibilities in the forestry sector of the country.

In recent years, the University has gained outstanding achievements in education, training, scientific research and transfer of technology. In  the industrialization and modernization  work of the country, the University is currently trying to meet the revolution of objectives on education and training in the forestry sector within the country in  the line with multi-levels, multi- systems, multi-majors and multi-disciplines, particularly in development of the market economy.

At the same time, it is striving to integrate into and keep abreast of regional and world forestry development and standards of education, training and research excellence.

The University is presided over by a Rector and 3 Vice Rectors appointed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Current annual student enrolment is 8,000 overall. The teaching staff consists of 220 lecturers, 90 of whom fill the ranks of Professors, Associate professors, Masters and Senior Lecturers
